The Practice of Yoga
"Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one's being, from bodily health to self-realization. Yoga means union -- the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one's actions."
-B.K.S. Iyengar
Yoga is a beautiful practice of getting to know yourself. Of the multitude of exercise regiments and spiritual protocols known today, yoga provides a personal, practical application for living a holistic lifestyle: uniting the mind, body and spirit.
The term "Yoga" describes a general category of spiritual and philosophical traditions within many Eastern cultures. Here in the United States, the Hatha Yoga tradition is most well-known and studied. Hatha Yoga is a physical movement practice of postures (or Asanas) that guides the practitioner into a deeper self awareness, moving the body in relation to the breath.
Hatha Yoga has therapeutic benefits for the body. Of its many gifts, yoga strengthens and tones the muscles, supports healthy digestive function, decreases blood pressure, stimulates circulation, supports the central nervous system and detoxifies the lympathic system.

2012: The Year of Self-Awareness
Welcome the majestic year of 2012!
Time to consider the Time.
The earth is evolving at a rapid rate- or so it may appear- but the earth is in tune with the time and so should we be.
What does it take to become "self-aware"? Self is defined as "the total, essential, or particular being of one person; the individual." The word Self also finds it's root in an old Latin meaning: "to give birth." Awareness is an ability that is cultivated through our attentiveness to our perceptions. It is our ability to guard and watch out for thoughts and emotions that guide our actions.
If we study nature, we see that she is always aware of how life interacts within her. Nature ebbs and flows with time: sometimes introspective as in winter; budding with possibilities as in spring; ripening with growth as in summer; and fulfilling her destiny as in autumn.
As we move through 2012, let us strive to make it a more meaningful journey. Let us tune with nature- the life in which we live in. Let us strive to be fully aware every moment of everyday. Our individual duty in life is to love. And we can not know love if we do not know self.
NAMASTE!
When we waste our time, it is like plucking the pearls from a dazzling necklace one by one and throwing them away. But when we use time well, each minute adds another jewel to enhance the beauty of our lives. Because time is our life, it is very precious, and we need to learn to treasure it.
